Takue Pa town is suffering its worst flooding since the 1970s. Flood water reaching up to three meters have submerged part of the town.
The water level was increasing continuously in many areas in the province, particularly in Takua Pa district, on Monday. This happened after a dam build to prevent flooding in the municipality was washed away by the flood when torrential rain hit Phang Nga and other coastal provinces over the weekend.
More than a thousand residents were isolated Monday night.
Takua Pa mayor Wisut Navalong ordered all schools in the district to suspend classes for the safety of students.
The huge volume of water which poured into the municipality carried away the dam and damaged many structures inside the municipality and in surrounding areas.
