Three Thai cabinet ministers will go to Phuket, the planned site for the resumed 14th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, on Saturday to check preparations for the summits, which were canceled halfway in April because of the red-shirt protest.
According to Bangkok Post, Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya, Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon and accompanying officials will check out the venue and security arrangements for the leaders of the ASEAN members plus six countries.
Phuket governor Wichai Praisa-ngob said the summit will be held at two hotels in Phuket; local sources tells Andaman Times it will be held at the Laguna complex.
Wichai said Phuket had all the needed facilities and he believed the summit would go smoothly.
The 14th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits was initially scheduled for April 10-12 in another Thai resort city Pattaya, but was canceled by Thai government on April 11 due to security concern after a flock of anti-government red-shirted protesters rushed into the venue.
